Understanding Low Back Pain
The lower back, or lumbar spine, serves as the primary support for your entire upper body while facilitating the complex movements of bending and twisting. Because this area bears significant weight and stress, it is one of the most common sites for biomechanical dysfunction. Low back pain often arises when the joints of the spine or the sacroiliac joints in the pelvis become restricted, leading to uneven pressure on spinal discs and irritation of the surrounding nerves.
Issues in the lower back are frequently caused by a combination of sedentary habits, improper lifting, or sudden movements that strain the supporting ligaments. When these mechanical shifts occur, the large muscles of the back often go into a protective spasm to stabilize the area, which can result in a cycle of persistent pain and decreased mobility.
We utilize spinal adjustments to restore proper motion to the lumbar vertebrae. We also have no and low force techniques available for those patients with mobility issues or concerns about bone density.
To address the deep muscle guarding that often accompanies low back issues, we incorporate manual therapy to relax tight hip flexors and lumbar muscles. We then transition into targeted rehab exercises focused on core stability and glute activation. This ensures that your lower back has the muscular support it needs to stay aligned, protecting the discs and nerves from future irritation during daily movement.
